回归哪里？回归音乐的天然生命力，回归阳光和大地上生机勃勃的音乐传统。西蒙选择了非洲，那里是现代摇滚乐、流行乐的生命源头之一，所以他要回到那里。在音乐上，太多的人像是如今全世界面目相似的“上班族”，已经成为匠人，成为音乐的技术人员，用现代化的机器，在工业化的流水线上炮制者一张张只和销量挂钩的声音垃圾。他们的面色日趋苍白，只能用驳杂的霓虹来渲染诡异的染色。
而西蒙自觉的回归音乐的生命源头，在那里汲取养分。所以，专辑的标题曲中，可能一时不大容易理清其中的故事和脉络，但是，至少我们可以把握一个核心，就是“i'm going to graceland”。在阳光和节奏的伴随下，不断的行走，走向心中的graceland，走向生命活力不竭的地方。在这样的歌曲中，我们已经听不到早期的合唱组合时期的西蒙清新舒展的声音，而是用跳跃性的音符诠释着自己走向音乐本身的脚步。在回归的过程中，现代都市人那种孱弱的神经和敏感的小情调消失不见，取而代之的是一种真正的生命激情和快乐感受。在这样的音乐中，阳光是能够被感觉到的，而不是当下在那些嗲声嗲气性别不明的都市男女身上被用滥了的“阳光”感。
